Why This Course
Most tattoo courses teach tattoo artists “shading techniques” like a drawing class- swing the mag like a pencil, using pure drawing techniques such as cross-hatching and overlapping layers, etc. Jing as a top art college graduate, had adopted these shading methods in her early years, only to find out it doesn’t actually work with the skin. Those drawing skills may look fine when the tattoo is freshly done, but in fact they can cause skin damage and lead to consequences such as color fading. How and why certain shading problems happen was rarely explained. This mag shading course was built specifically to explain how the mag work In the Skin, and how to control it with different angles, pressure, etc. After taking this course, you’ll understand why certain shading problems happen, e.g. color fading, and how to fully control your mag to avoid such results.

This course does not include color theories, or using color inks. However, all the shading techniques taught in this course are applicable to, and developed from color tattoos. Jing is a color tattoo artist, and she clarifies the differences between grey wash shading techniques and color tattoo techniques in the course.
